Graduating Goaltender Troy Martyniuk has capped off a very impressive Junior Hockey career with a commitment to the Carleton University Ravens for the 2018-2019 season. The Winnipeg native was the backbone of the Winkler Flyers this past season and his strong play did not go unnoticed, highlighted by a number of team and league awards.
After joining the Flyers midway through the 2016-2017 season, Martyniuk cemented his spot between the pipes and helped the Orange and Black finish in the top half of the standings with two MJHL semi-final playoff appearances the last two seasons.
In 61 total regular season starts in Winkler, Martyniuk had a record of 39-20-2 with a 2.23 Goals Against Average and a .926 Save Percentage. He also led all Manitoba Junior Hockey League Goaltenders in wins (28) and minutes played (2797) this past season.
His solid season was recognized at the league level as he was named the MJHL’s Top Goaltender, MJHL MVP Finalist, CJHL Top Goaltender Finalist, 2nd Team MJHL All-Star and Winkler Flyers Team MVP.
“I would like to give a big thank you to the Flyers organization from the coaching staff, players, billets and the community of Winkler for helping me grow and develop on and off the ice” said Martyniuk.
“It was a great experience getting to put on the Flyers “W” for the past two years as it got me ready for the next chapter. I’m excited to announce my commitment to further my playing career and education at Carleton University for next season.”
Carleton University plays in the OUA (Ontario University Athletics) of the USports Men’s Hockey League, the top collegiate hockey program in Canada.
The Flyers would like to congratulate Troy on his decision to continue his education and hockey career at Carleton University.
