GDI INTRO PROGRAM LEVEL

The emphasis of the INTRO progression is to build a strong technical foundation securing each of the three primary fundamental skill groups.

These skill groups include:

  • Position-specific movement
  • Basic positioning
  • Goalie’s initial save assets.

Strength in these critical areas will ensure expedited growth due to the strength of the fundamental base. Each on-ice session will have a strong focus on a goalie’s movement game. This emphasis is due to the importance of this fundamental skill group.

Strong movement leads to greater positional efficiency, which, in turn, leads to more controlled and consistent save response. This progressive, downstream effect is the primary objective of this program.

A further impact of this fundamental focus is the increase in confidence that the younger/beginner-level goaltender receives from growth in these areas.

While movement is the focus, the goalie will build strong basic positioning and the ability to execute key save moves.

The INTRO curriculum is offered as a summer camp as well as an in-center, 24-week winter curriculum.

GDI ADVANCED ADV LEVEL

The emphasis of the ADV progression is to refine technical skills while taking the participant’s positional and post-save game to a higher standard. It is in these areas that goaltender’s often find their greatest technical gains. Improving both shot preparation and post-save efficiency leads directly to greater performance consistency. During ice sessions, athletes will engage in a program focusing on technical refinement and tactical training.

Participants will begin to gain greater control of save executions, recovery and position-specific movements that drive their positional efficiency.

Sessions will concentrate on goaltender mobility (pre-save and post-save), establishing stronger and more consistent position with an emphasis on center- net play. In this second progression, goalies will be introduced to a more sophisticated approach to their development not only through the technical work but also as they assess both sides of the puck.

The ability to read the play effectively allows the goalie to dictate the flow of attack. Finally, positioning while down will be introduced in this progression to begin the process of driving a goalie’s positional recovery skills forward.

The ADV program is offered as a summer camp as well as an in-center 24-week winter curriculum.

GDI HIGH PERFORMANCE LEVEL HP

HP represents the third step in our teaching progression. This program works towards honing tactical and transitional skills and expediting a goaltender’s physiological and psychological resource development. Goaltenders are expected to have outstanding technical skill and be in superior athletic condition prior to registering for this program.

On-ice, athletes will embark on a detailed analysis of shot preparation and positional play to see how it can be properly integrated into their style of goaltending. It is here that goaltenders will begin to calibrate their “up” game with their “down” game. This is done by integrating highly efficient down mobility into their game.

These modern methodologies represent the forefront of goaltender development. Dynamic post-save response dovetails with the goalie’s primary objective which is to occupy space and then be reactive, as required, off this core coverage.

Offensive and defensive strategies will be reviewed to determine how to play a greater role in team transition while tactically, creative stick use is established.

Finally, this program will interface with the participant’s physical and mental preparation for upcoming training camps and the season.

GDI ELITE LEVEL

The GDI ELITE progression is unique. The emphasis of this program is twofold. First, participating athletes will follow the most sophisticated development curriculum available today. Through this program, they will be exposed to advanced tactical, positional, and transitional training.

Goaltenders will focus on honing exceptional movement mechanics and establishing a strong understanding of technical components. While many goalies develop strong technical assets, they are not mentored in the instinctive, competitive and anticipatory skills sets. Expansion of these intangibles is often the missing piece of the puzzle and, indeed, the primary emphasis of the ELITE progression.

ELITE Progression is available as a Summer Camp and in-Center through 1-on-1 lessons.

GDI PRO LEVEL

This is for aspiring professional athletes looking to take their game to the next level. GDI Goaltending, being the regional leader in goaltender development, has designed a unique program that offers goaltenders something you can’t get anywhere else in the country.

With a goaltenders performance on the ice being the main area critiqued and evaluated across Western Canada, GDI Goaltending has created a goaltending academy that incorporates all on-ice aspects that will take the aspiring athlete to new heights. Off-ice training is also taken to a new high with Elite Performance guiding each athlete to improve physically. Through this academy goaltenders will be able to advance their potential, year by year, through each level of the program eventually leading them into the pro ranks.

Consulting is available as a Camp or in-center for goaltenders playing Junior, College or Pro levels. In addition, GDI offers Prospect Clinics through specific times of the year along with the Junior/College Off-Season Total GDI Academy group.
