Hockey Manitoba and Saskatchewan Hockey Association announced the Team West roster that will be competing at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge held December 28 – January 4, 2014 in Cape Breton, NS.

 

Selected in goal was GDI trained netminders Tyson Verhelst and Logan Flodell.

Tyson Verhelst is playing with the Neepawa Natives of the MJHL this season. Playing his first year of Junior hockey he currently holds a 3-4 record with a .888 Save Percentage. Verhelst was drafted by the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL in the 2012 Draft. Verhelst has been training with GDI over the past three years through one-on-one sessions, Elite Performance off-ice sessions, and took part in the Total GDI Academy where he was at the centre weekly throughout the summer. Currently he comes in bi-weekly to train during the season for consulting with Spokane Chiefs Goaltending Coach Ryan Cyr. Logan Flodell is playing his second year with the SMAAAHL Regina Pat Canadians. This year he sits with a 5-2-2 record with a 2.28 GAA and a .922 Save Percentage. Logan has been training with GDI since 2011. He was a member of Team Saskatchewan at the Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup played November 1 through November 4 in Calgary. He recorded a 2-0-0 record in two games played, stopping 42 of 46 shots he faced.He has been through GDI Regional Summer Camps in Regina and through personal one-on-one training sessions coming in to Winnipeg. Flodell was drafted by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2012 Bantam Draft in the 3rd Round, 47th Overall.   For more on the tournament roster and schedule Click Here.
