The Regina Pats are lamenting a protracted cold snap for reasons that do not pertain to the chilly climate. Regina's losing streak swelled to eight games Wednesday when the Moose Jaw Warriors registered a 3-2 shootout victory before 4,390 WHL patrons at the Brandt Centre. The number eight was unlucky in another respect for the home side. The shootout was scoreless until the eighth skater - Jordan Messier - settled matters with a nifty deke on Pats goaltender Matt Hewitt. After Messier found the mark, he was mobbed by his jubilant Warriors teammates. A disconsolate Hewitt, meanwhile, skated slowly to the corner. Hewitt slammed his stick against the ice before slowly making his way to the Pats' bench. Head down, he banged his stick against the boards as teammates commended him on a game well played. He was the last player to leave the ice, but soon reappeared to be acknowledged as the game's second star. Hewitt then took the time to interact with some youngsters who had gathered near the Pats' bench. He exchanged high-fives with them all before disappearing into the tunnel.
