Pistons Prepare For A Busy Weekend - GDI Goalies Get Ready For Exhibition Games
The Steinbach Pistons will be playing three consecutive exhibition games this weekend as the team continues to mold and adjust their roster for their home-opener September 20th. Currently in the mix for goaltenders are 20-year old veteran Zach Rakochy, Nick Deery (1994), Erik Pion (1994), Hunter Plozay (1996), and Mario Petit (1997). Over the course of the summer months in July and August both Manitoba born netminders Hunter Plozay and Mario Petit were at the GDI Training Centre 3 days a week minimum as they both took part in the Total GDI Academy. Netminder Erik Pion has been with GDI for several years and had one-on-one consulting over the summer. Veteran goaltender for the Steinbach Pistons Zach Rakochy traveled from Canora Saskatchewan as he has done for the past three years for one-on-one consulting during the summer months. There has been a lot of buzz around the arena at the talent level that is present, with the majority of last year's roster returning along with a few key acquisitions in the off-season and the arrival of quite a few prospects from around the United States. The Pistons still have 44 players on their roster and will need to get their roster down to a maximum of 25 players before they open their season against the Flyers. In the meantime, this weekend is a make or break for many of the players who have traveled from afar and an opportunity for returning players to solidify their spots on the roster.
