Over the weekend longtime GDI Goalie Austin Lotz helped the Silvertips pick up four points with wins against Tri-City on Friday and the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday. Lotz surrendered 2 goals on 34 shots against Tri-City Friday night in a 4-2 victory
and then Saturday he helped the Silvertips to a 5-2 win
with 31 of 33 shots stopped on the night against Seattle. For his efforts in this one he was awarded the games 1st Star.
Saturday night also had Eric Williams starring against the Prince George. In this one he helped the Chiefs blank the Cougars as he stopped all 28 shots that were fired his way as his team ran away with this one by a score of 8-0. For more on the game Click Here
The MJHL Playoffs recently started up on March 4th and now they are well underway. Friday night had Steinbach and Portage squaring off for Game 1 of their series in a lengthy affair. This one ended up going to Double Overtime as both teams were deadlocked at 3-3 until the Pistons potted in the game winner. Pistons netminder Zach Rakochy made 32 of 35 stops on the night for the W. After this one the Terriers then had home ice Sunday night and took advantage of it with a 3-1 win on home ice over the Pistons to tie the series up at 1-1.
In the Sher-wood Division the OCN Blizzard and Waywayseecappo Wolverines completed their first round match-up with the Blizzard taking the final game by a score of 5-4. GDI Goaltenders Justin Holder and Brian Archibald squared off in this one in opposing ends. Archy took the cake to help the Blizzard advance to the next round and Holder showed a strong effort for his team as he made 37 of 42 stops on the night. For more on the game Click Here
. The OCN Blizzard now take on the Dauphin Kings.
The Manitoba Provincial Midget playoffs are now into the Finals as the Winnipeg Wild will take on the Eastman Selects.
Friday night the Winnipeg Wild took down their cross-town rivals the Winnipeg Thrashers by a score of 3-1. Wild goaltender Tyler Brown pushed aside 24/25 shots on the night to stun the Thrashers as they couldn't muster a goal until early in the third period. Veteran Thrasher goaltender Troy Martyniuk stopped 31/34 in the loosing cause. GDI Goaltender Brown and Johnson now are on the trek to the MBAAA Finals. For more on the game Click Here
The Eastman Selects were also able to take the road to the MBAAA Finals as they took down the Brandon Wheat Kings in their series. Sunday night Mario Petit made 35/38 stops to help the Selects to a 4-3 victory. In the opposite end Reid Stallard stopped 28/32 in the loosing cause.
