The Winkler Flyers netminder Adam Vanderlinden picked up his a win on a slow Saturday night as he stopped 17 shots for a 3-2 win over Virden.
Brian Archibald and Alex Henry each picked up W's for the OCN Blizzard on the weekend. Archibald stopped 33 of 34 against Wayway on Saturday night for a 3-1 victory and Henry made 36/39 saves against the Neepawa Natives Sunday night for a 6-3 win.
The Steinbach Pistons Zach Rakochy and Nick Deery both picked up W's over the weekend to help the team get to a total of 86 points, 2nd behind the Selkirk Steelers.
The Manitoba Provincial Midget playoffs are now into the 2nd round of playoffs.
The Winnipeg Wild and Thrashers are now tied within their series at 1-1. The series started off on February 28th with the Winnipeg Wild taking fire as they peppered the Thrashers netminder, Troy Martyniuk, with 52 shots. Opening up the series with a victory Evan Johnson made a total of 40 of 42 stops on the night.
Game 2 of the series went on Sunday afternoon with the Winnipeg Thrashers taking this one to tie up the series. In this one Johnson allowed 20/24 and Kubic 23/26.
The Brandon Wheat Kings started off Game 1 against the Eastman Selects with a bang as they fired 53 shots at Selects netminder Mario Petit to claim a commanding 6-3 victory. Petit stopped 47 of 53 shots fired his way while on the opposing side Gutenberg made 26/29 saves for the win in front of his home crowd.
The Selects fired back in Game 2 to tie things up similar to the Wild vs. Thrashers series. Mario Petit had his 2nd start in the series and stopped 26/29 shots for the victory. For the Wheat Kings goaltender Reid Stallard made 19/23 saves.
The next games come up on March 5th.
