Kasdorf Selected as Rookie of the Week:

TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Jason Kasdorf has been selected as the ECAC Hockey Men's Rookie of the Week for the period ending January 20. The freshman goaltender returned to action after being sidelined due to injury and led the Engineers to a pair of victories. On Friday night against No. 20 Colgate University, Kasdorf finished with 32 saves on 33 shots as RPI defeated the Raiders, 2-1. The Winnipeg, Man., native had 13 saves in the first period, seven in the second and 12 in the third period. The lone goal he gave up was a power play marker in the third period. The next night versus No. 16 Cornell University, a 3-2 victory, Kasdorf made 15 saves in the first period, including several with the Big Red on a major power play, 10 in the second and nine in the third for a total of 34 saves. One goal he allowed came on the power play while the other was scored with Cornell's goalie on the bench for an extra skater. Kasdorf, who missed the previous six games while injured, is now 4-1-2 on the season with a 1.60 goals against average and a .943 save percentage in nine games. He is currently fifth in the nation in both goals against and save percentage and seventh in winning percentage (.714). A National Hockey League (NHL) draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets, Kasdorf joined the Engineers after playing for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) last season. In 2011-12 he was 10-16-3 with a 2.75 goals against average and a .913 save percentage in 35 contests. Lotz With Franchise Record Performance On Wednesday:

A superhuman effort by Everett Silvertips goaltender Austin Lotz was made moot by the penalty shot that beat him. Lotz made 65 saves but he was beat by Cole Ully's penalty shot in overtime that lifted the Kamloops Blazers to a 4-3 victory in Western Hockey League play this past Wednesday. Ully, who also scored in regulation, was granted the penalty shot after Silvertips defenceman Ben Betker was sent off for tripping just 1:17 into overtime. Lotz meanwhile was stellar from the start, blanking the Blazers through a first period where Everett was outshot 29-6 but still lead 2-0. Koop and Rakochy Pick Up 4 of 6 Points For Pistons:

"Goals weren't coming easy today, but we stayed with it," Pistons Head Coach Paul Dyck said. "We played solid defensively and that's what you need to against this club." In goal for the Pistons was 20-year old Corey Koop. Between the pipes he allowed a low 2 goals on 39 shots against. In the third he was peppered as he had 17 shots thrown his was which included a left alone walkout from the corner as the game was locked at 2-2 with just over a minute to go. The Pistons Zach Rakochy continued where the teams backend had left off the following night as the Pistons capped off Steinbach Miller Day festivities with a win over the Neepawa Natives. The Pistons goaltender made 35 of 37 stops on the night as he helped his team climb back from a 2-1 deficit after the first where the shots were 20-13 for the Natives. ___________________________________________________________________________
