Caligiuri Suits Up For The Manitoba Moose

The Manitoba Moose Hockey Club announced today that they have signed goaltender Joe Caligiuri to an amateur tryout agreement. Caligiuri, 26, previously spent four seasons with the University of Manitoba Bisons from 2010 through 2014 where he played in 46 games compiling a 24-16-2 record. The Winnipeg native spent a year with the MJHL’s Dauphin Kings during the 2009-10 season leading the team to the league championship and was named the playoffs most valuable player. Prior to that Caligiuri played three seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Prince George Cougars. He posted a career record of 46-35-6 with a 3.14 GAA and a .894 save percentage in 99 career games. He will join the Moose roster for their game on Sunday afternoon against the Bakersfield Condors at 2 p.m. at the MTS Centre. Brown Takes On A Bigger Role With The Regina Pats

GDI Goalie Tyler Brown has been thrust into the starter's role for the Regina Pats after a November trade sent Daniel Wapple to the Vancouver Giants. Tyler Brown can’t mask his excitement. The 18-year-old goaltender is still enjoying a honeymoon phase as the new starter with the WHL’s Regina Pats, who promoted him on Nov. 5 after veteran Daniel Wapple was traded to the Vancouver Giants. “I absolutely love it,” said Brown. “It has been a dream of mine since I was about 14 years old. Ever since I got here I’ve been wowed by the places we play and the crowds we get. It’s a pretty special feeling to be the starting goalie.” Brown stopped 37 of 39 shots in his first game after the promotion, losing 3-1 to the Swift Current Broncos (with an empty-net goal). He was pulled 24 hours later after allowing three goals on nine shots against the Victoria Royals, who prevailed 6-1. Brown watched the next game from the bench as rookie Jordan Hollett backstopped Regina to an 8-5 win over the Red Deer Rebels. “Sometimes it’s tough to get the yank but you can’t let it get to you,” Brown said. “I try to forget about it right away — maybe after the game see what I could have done different (by watching video). The short memory thing is huge for goalies. The mental aspect of your game has to be strong.” KHP_0039Brown’s words were put to the test on Sunday against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He responded by stopping 33 of 36 shots in a 5-3 win — his first since becoming the No. 1 man. “I’m really happy to get the first one under the belt,” said Brown, who improved his record to 3-5-0 this season with a 3.57 GAA and .904 save percentage. “From here on out I just want to keep it going and I want the team to play how we’ve been playing the last two games. Hopefully everything should shake out (well) for us.” A lot depends on Brown, who’s still in the process of adjusting to his new role. Although he’s eager to embrace a starter’s mentality, head coach/GM John Paddock has emphasized the need to keep an even keel. “It’s definitely a hard thing to do but me and John have talked two or three times about how I just need to play the same as I’ve been playing and not let things get to me,” said Brown. “In the end nothing really changes for me besides recovery (from a greater workload). I know the team is going to have to rely on me. I feel like I can be up to the challenge and hopefully step up in big times when they need me.” Brown’s last experience as a starter was two years ago at the midget AAA level when he backstopped the Winnipeg Wild to a provincial title, going 20-2-0 with a 1.49 GAA, .938 SP and seven shutouts. The Winnipeg native began the next season as a backup in the Manitoba junior A ranks but was quickly called up by Regina, where he went 7-7-1 with a 3.27 GAA and .896 SP while serving as Wapple’s understudy. Now the student is ready for graduation. “He already has the work ethic,” said Pats assistant coach/assistant GM Dave Struch. “He has to understand he’s going to be playing a lot more games, a lot more teams, different shooters. Handling the pressure is going to be up to him. It’s going to be up to us to get him ready as far as practices and rest and fatigue, but we saw it last year. He’s a real hard-working guy, he’s committed to the game, he’s committed to getting better. We trust him just as we trust Jordan Hollett. They’re going to complement each other really well and we look forward to the future with both of them.” To read the article Click Here Brown has been training with GDI for over 6 years through GDI Summer Camps, 1v1 lessons and the Total GDI Academy. ______________________________________________________________________________________
