Look below, get your goalie fix to start the week. Here we go!
In-Season Total GDI Academy:
With the new hockey season approaching the In-Season Total GDI Academy is starting to fill up.
The In-Season Total GDI Goaltending Academy is designed to support the competitive athlete. With hectic team practice and game schedules in mind, the Academy gives goaltenders the opportunity to train before school hours to help their time management and create a positive environment to succeed at both education and hockey development. In addition to on-ice development goalies will receive video analysis to constructively critique their performance in each days on-ice topic. This overall support and mentorship will help enhance game play throughout the season.
GDI offers 3 different days for the In-Season Total Academy:
Tuesday The Rink Training Centre (FEW SPOTS REMAINING)
Wednesday The Rink Training Centre (FEW SPOTS REMAINING)
Friday Gateway Arena (NO SPOTS REMAINING)
Spots are filling up fast with only a few remaining. Look to book your spot as soon as possible. For more on the In-Season Total GDI Academy Click Here
GDI will also be attending The Rink Training Centre's AM Skills Academy sessions throughout the season. These skates will take place at the St. Vital arena with 3 goalie spots on each ice time.

A Pair Of First WHL Starts
A pair of GDI Goalies made their Western Hockey League debuts over the weekend.
In Lethbridge, Tyler Brown was given his first WHL start against the host Lethrbridge Hurricanes. Brown started the season with the Winnipeg Blues of the MJHL but was recently called up to the Pats.
Brown surrendered only 1 goal against on the 30 shots he faced and also kept the Hurricanes to 0 for 6 on the power play. The game finished with a score of 6-1 for the Pats over the Hurricanes.
The other GDI goalie getting his first WHL start was Tyson Verhelst of the Spokane Chiefs.
It doesn't get any harder as Verhelst was playing the Kelowna Rockets, the top team in not only the WHL but the entire CHL.
The Chiefs gave it their best shot but they fell to the Rockets 3-2.
Verhelst finished the game with 17 saves in the loss.
Both Brown and Verhelst have been training with GDI for years participating in 1v1 lessons, GDI Prospect clinics and attending the Total GDI academy.
Edmonds The Backbone For The Cougars
Ty Edmonds earned first star honours when the Prince George Cougars payed a visit to the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Edmonds stopped 26 shots in the 3-1 win over the Thunderbirds. Edmonds and the Cougars also kept the Thunderbirds off the board by killing all 4 power plays.
In the other end was Logan Flodell who had a busier night making 37 saves for the Thunderbirds. Flodell was the game's 3rd star for his strong effort.
Edmonds has been training with GDI for 7 years attending countless 1v1 lessons as well as being a regular in the Total GDI Academy. Flodell is a committed GDI goalie who travels from Regina, SK during the off-season to work with GDI.
GDI Goalies Steal The Show
GDI Goalies Austin Lotz and Garret Hughson both earned stars in a game between the Everett Silvertips and Spokane Chiefs.
Lotz and Hughson took the game to overtime before a winner was decided.
Lotz stopped 20 on the night and earned first star honours as the Silvertips beat the Chiefs 3-2 in overtime. Hughson stopped 23 on the night for the Chiefs in the loss.
Lotz has been working with GDI for the past 5 year being a part of the Total GDI Academy and working through many 1v1 lessons. Hughson has travelled to Winnipeg to work with GDI during the off-seaon. GDI President Ryan Cyr is also the goaltending coach of the Spokane Chiefs.
Kasdorf Peppered With 42 Shots
There's not much more Jason Kasdorf could do in a 3-0 loss to the University of Denver Pioneers.
"Junior goaltender Jason Kasdorf
made 39 saves, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team was shut out by 16th-ranked Denver University, this evening at Magness Arena. With the win, the Pioneers open the season at 1-0, while the Engineers drop to 1-2."
"Kasdorf (Winnipeg, MB/Des Moines Bucs) stopped all 20 shots he faced in the first period, and 11 in the second, including five during a five-minute Denver power-play."
Kasdorf has been training with GDI for the past 5 years, from his time with the Portage Terriers to being an NHL draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets. Kasdorf regularly attends 1v1 lessons and is a part of the Total GDI Academy during the off-season which includes 3 ice times a week with a 1v1 lesson, PSM circuit and GDI Tactical session.
Dola Solid For The Steelers
Hayden Dola continued his strong play for the Selkirk Steelers in a 4-1 win over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Friday night.
Dola turned aside 32 of the 33 shots fired his way including 16 in the 3rd period to preserve the Steelers win. Dola and the Steelers also killed off all 5 Wolverine power plays.
Dola was named the 2nd star of the game for his solid play.
In the other end of the rink was another GDI Goalie, Justin Holder. Holder made 29 saves in the game for the Wolverines but it wasn't enough to defeat Dola and the Steelers.
Tremblay Blanks Nipawin
Spencer Tremblay was perfect through 3 periods and overtime as the Battlefords Northstars defeated the Nipawin Hawks 1-0.
It's no surprise Tremblay was named the game's first star. Tremblay finished the night with 30 saves with 15 coming in the 3rd period and overtime combined.
In 10 appearances this season Tremblay has posted a GAA of 2.62 to go along with a solid SV% of .913.
Poiron Stays Unbeaten
Landon Poiron had quite the weekend for the Eastman Selects.
Poiron surrendered only two goals against in two starts during the showcase.
Friday night Poiron turned aside 25 shots in a close 3-1 win over the Central Plains Capitals.
In his second start of the weekend, Poiron made 29 saves as the Eastman Selects beat the Pembina Valley Hawks.
So far this season Poiron has posted a record of 3-0-0-0 to go along with a GAA of 2.67 and a Sv% of .927.
Poiron trains regularly at GDI with 1v1 lessons throughout the year.
Balmoral Hall Blazers
GDI Instructor Dan Ferguson has been attending practices with the Balmoral Hall Blazers.
The Blazers compete in the Junior Women's Hockey League (JWHL). The JWHL is a prep league preparing girls to make the jump to college and university hockey.
The Blazer's roster includes two longtime GDI goalies in Jessica Campbell and Rylie Wills. Both Campbell and Wills have been attending GDI for years, participating in many 1v1 lessons and Total GDI Academy sessions.
The roster also includes a new face in Polina Yurchenko. Yurchenko came all the way from Russia to attend Balmoral Hall.
GDI looks forward to continually working with these 3 goalies and wishes them the best over the course of this season.
