A number of heroes emerged for the Kings in Sunday afternoon’s game, most notably rookie goaltender Troy Martyniuk, who had begun the game as back-up to Jordan Piccolino, who was forced out of the game in the first period with the game deadlocked 1-1.
“It feels awesome,” Martyniuk told CKDM Radio
. “It’s good to get the first game out of the way. Got a win for the boys! The crowd was behind me all the way. It was really exciting.”

The Steinbach Pistons’ season may be over, but they have been nominated for Sport Manitoba’s Team of the Year Award.
The award is for the calendar year of 2013, which includes the Pistons’ MJHL Championship and hot start to the 2013-14 season.
All four netminders from the Pistons were coached by GDI Goaltending over the past two years.

The Spokane Chiefs addressed one of their biggest needs Friday by acquiring 19-year-old goaltender Alex Moodie from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a future draft selection.
Moodie, a 6-foot-1, 182-pounder from Winnipeg, Manitoba, played in 28 games with the Blades last year, his third season in the Western Hockey League.
“Acquiring Alex does a few things for our organization,” Chiefs general manager Tim Speltz said. “It strengthens our depth at the goaltending position and also creates a healthy competition at that position moving into 2014-15.”
The Chiefs must make up for the graduation of goalie Eric Williams, who was 33-19-4 last year in his 20-year-old season. Williams has signed with the Colorado Eagles of the East Coast Hockey League.
