Jason Kasdorf Selected as Rookie of the Week
TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Jason Kasdorf has been selected as the ECAC Hockey Men's Rookie of the Week for the period ending January 20. The freshman goaltender returned to action after being sidelined due to injury and led the Engineers to a pair of victories. On Friday night against No. 20 Colgate University, Kasdorf finished with 32 saves on 33 shots as RPI defeated the Raiders, 2-1. The Winnipeg, Man., native had 13 saves in the first period, seven in the second and 12 in the third period. The lone goal he gave up was a power play marker in the third period. The next night versus No. 16 Cornell University, a 3-2 victory, Kasdorf made 15 saves in the first period, including several with the Big Red on a major power play, 10 in the second and nine in the third for a total of 34 saves. One goal he allowed came on the power play while the other was scored with Cornell's goalie on the bench for an extra skater. Kasdorf, who missed the previous six games while injured, is now 4-1-2 on the season with a 1.60 goals against average and a .943 save percentage in nine games. He is currently fifth in the nation in both goals against and save percentage and seventh in winning percentage (.714). A National Hockey League (NHL) draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets, Kasdorf joined the Engineers after playing for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) last season.
