Partnering with GDI Goaltending, Elite Performance offers YOGA as part of our Training Centre' cutting edge programming.

Elite understands the physical requirements a successful goalie possesses which is why YOGA is such an important component of dry land conditioning. Yoga instructor and guru, Dillon Cherrett, has been working with Elite athletes providing them with the skills they need to reach their optimum performance.   Dillon has created a goalie-specific yoga program to address the following critical skills:

Mobility:

Goalies need to gain tremendous flexibility, especially in the hips, to best execute their lateral movement and cover the lower half of the net. Yoga trains to improve the range of motion of the whole body, especially the hips and legs, helping athletes achieve peak performance.

Stability:

Goalies need to prevent injuries by training in ways that balance the body, right side and left, front and back, as well as integrating the core in their movement. Yoga postures reveal imbalances and work to correct them. An emphasis on moving from the core always precedes going further into stretches.

Equanimity:

Goalies need to be mentally present, calm in adversity, and disciplined to hone their skill.  Yoga breathing practices are central to maintaining equanimity; the ability to meet each moment as it meets you, calmly, without any fuss or drama. Yoga cultivates will power, through calm determination every time we step out of our comfort zone, and into a breakthrough.
