Portland Winterhawks goaltender Cole Kehler has been named the WHL’s Goaltender of the Week and is the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 8th, 2017.


Kehler had a 2-0-0-0 record over the weekend with a .943 save percentage and a 1.50 goals against average.

On Friday, Kehler was named first star in Portland’s 6-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs. Kehler stopped 30 of 31 shots to post his third win of the season. In Sunday’s rematch with Spokane, Kehler played well again making 22 saves to lead Portland to a 7-2 win. The victory was also Kehler’s 40th career WHL win.

On the season, Kehler has a 4-0-0-0 with a 2.25 GAA and a .907 SV%. Among qualified goaltenders, Kehler ranks third in the WHL in goals against average and seventh in save percentage.

This is the third time Kehler has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week. Last season with the Winterhawks he was named top goaltender twice for the weeks of January 29th and March 19th.
